Burnet’s Hudson Bennett sets new personal best at national meet, teammates win medals at Salado

Burnet senior runner Hudson Bennett posted a new personal best in the 5K thanks to clocking 14 minutes and 44 seconds at the Woodbridge Cross Country Invitational at Irvine, Calif., Friday, Sept. 16. He was 55th out of 229 elite runners in the men’s sweepstakes race.
Meanwhile, his teammates competed at the Salado Tenroc Invitational Sept. 15.
The Lady Dawgs were third in the varsity team standings led by junior Ameila Griffin’s 13:07.50 in the two-mile race, good enough for 19th overall. Junior Cierra Blunt-Culpepper was 23rd in 13:14, sophomore Kori Haile finished 24th in 13:19.90, senior Maya Calderon was 29th 13:31.60, and freshman Caroline Valencia came in 41st in 13:45.30. Senior Autumn Stires crossed the finish line in 13:46.30 for 42nd place, freshman Haile Maxwell was done in 13:49.40 for 46th place, sophomore Nicole Rorie finished in 14:18.60 for 62nd place, and junior Brooke Bowman completed the course in 14:34.10 for 75th place.
In the junior varsity race, freshman Josie McDavid was 13th in 14:49.40, sophomore Leslie Camacho was 22nd in 15:44.30, senior Lainey Rye was 28th in 15:59.40, and sophomore Jaylee Messer came in 59th in 17:07.40.
In the boys varsity 5K race, sophomore Victor Aviles paced the Bulldogs by finishing fourth in 16:57, while sophomore Isaias Zarate was 23rd in 18:12.80, freshman Josvanny Ramirez came in 76th in 19:35, and sophomore Gustavk Vega was 91st in 19:54.30.
